Parents top up a wallet and set spending limits. Children buy lunch at the canteen till with a QR code — or with their palm.

The constraint

Every payment method available to a seven-year-old fails the same two ways: cards get lost and PINs get forgotten. Both are unworkable at a till with a lunch queue behind it.

The decision

Palm-vein biometrics, wired through native Android libraries into both the enrolment app and the point-of-sale scanner. Nothing to carry, nothing to remember.

What happened next

The original developer left mid-build. I had architected the platform, so I took over implementation and ongoing delivery — which is how I know what it costs to inherit a system you only designed.
